Tadalafil (Cialis) is a long-acting phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor used for erectile dysfunction and, at specific daily doses, benign prostatic hyperplasia; it enhances nitric-oxide-mediated cGMP signaling during sexual stimulation while its unusually long half-life allows erectile responsiveness to remain improved for up to 36 hours after an on-demand dose.
Key Insights
- For erectile dysfunction treated as needed, the usual starting dose of Tadalafil is 10 mg before anticipated sexual activity. Depending on response and tolerability, the dose may be reduced to 5 mg or increased to 20 mg. The recommended maximum frequency for this regimen is once per day, and taking a second tablet because the first response seemed incomplete can unnecessarily increase drug exposure.
- Tadalafil differs from shorter-acting PDE5 inhibitors because its mean terminal half-life is approximately 17.5 hours. Clinical studies have demonstrated improved erectile responsiveness for up to 36 hours after dosing, although this does not mean that an erection continues for 36 hours. Sexual stimulation is still required each time an erection is wanted.
- Tadalafil also has an established once-daily regimen. For ED, daily treatment generally begins at 2.5 mg and may be increased to 5 mg according to response. A 5 mg once-daily dose is also used for the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia and for men who have both ED and BPH.
- Food does not have a clinically important effect on the rate or extent of Tadalafil absorption. Unlike some ED medicines whose timing can become less predictable after a fatty meal, Cialis may be taken with or without food. Maximum plasma concentrations are usually reached between 30 minutes and 6 hours after a dose, with a median time of approximately 2 hours.
- The 36-hour period associated with Tadalafil has been demonstrated in controlled trials. In one study of Tadalafil 20 mg, 52.9% of intercourse attempts approximately 24 hours after dosing were successful compared with 29.1% with placebo; at approximately 36 hours, the figures were 59.2% and 28.3%, respectively.
- Nitrates must not be combined with Tadalafil because the combination can cause a dangerous reduction in blood pressure. The long persistence of Tadalafil makes this especially important. If nitrate treatment becomes medically necessary in a life-threatening situation, current labeling states that at least 48 hours should have elapsed after the last Tadalafil dose, and nitrate administration still requires close medical supervision.
- Headache, indigestion, back pain, muscle pain, nasal congestion and flushing are among the more familiar adverse effects. Back pain and myalgia have a particularly recognizable pattern with Tadalafil: when they occur, they commonly begin about 12 to 24 hours after a dose and usually resolve within approximately 48 hours.
- Substantial alcohol intake can add to Tadalafil’s vasodilating effect. Current Cialis labeling specifically warns that consumption of about five alcohol units or more together with Tadalafil can increase the likelihood of dizziness, faster heart rate, a fall in standing blood pressure and other orthostatic symptoms.
- Mexican retail prices differ sharply between original Cialis and generic Tadalafil. In October 2026, Farmacias del Ahorro listed generic Tadalafil 20 mg, four tablets, at about MXN 358 while Cialis 20 mg, four tablets, was MXN 1,910. For daily therapy, its 28-tablet package of generic Tadalafil 5 mg was MXN 637 compared with MXN 3,005 for Cialis 5 mg, 28 tablets. Online prices can change with promotions, stock and location.
What You Need to Know About Tadalafil in Mexico
Cialis entered the erectile dysfunction market after sildenafil and immediately occupied a somewhat different position. Its active ingredient, Tadalafil, belongs to the same PDE5 inhibitor class, but the drug remains in the body much longer and can therefore be used in two distinct ways. Some men take 10 or 20 mg before anticipated sexual activity, while others use a much smaller dose every day so that treatment is already present without planning each sexual encounter around a tablet.
The pharmacology behind the erectile effect is familiar. Sexual stimulation triggers the release of nitric oxide in penile tissue, which increases cyclic guanosine monophosphate, or cGMP, and relaxes smooth muscle within the erectile circulation. PDE5 breaks that cGMP signal down. Tadalafil inhibits PDE5, allowing the signal to remain active longer and making sufficient penile blood flow easier to maintain during arousal.
It is still important to separate improved erectile responsiveness from automatic sexual activity. Tadalafil does not increase libido, does not create arousal and does not produce a continuous erection while the medicine remains in the bloodstream. A man can take Cialis in the morning and have no erection for many hours because no sexual stimulation has occurred, then obtain an improved erectile response later when stimulation is present. This distinction is particularly relevant with a medication known for a 36-hour treatment window.
Why Can Tadalafil Work for Up to 36 Hours?
Tadalafil’s long treatment window is primarily explained by how slowly the body eliminates it. The mean terminal half-life in healthy subjects is approximately 17.5 hours, which is considerably longer than that of several other PDE5 inhibitors. A meaningful amount of active drug can therefore remain in the circulation the following day after an on-demand dose.
Maximum plasma concentration is normally reached between 30 minutes and 6 hours after a single oral dose, with a median of approximately 2 hours. That pharmacokinetic peak should not be confused with the only useful time for intercourse. Clinical studies deliberately tested sexual attempts much later and found that Tadalafil continued to improve erectile response at 24 and 36 hours after dosing.
In a randomized study involving 348 men, 52.9% of intercourse attempts around 24 hours after Tadalafil 20 mg were successful compared with 29.1% after placebo. At approximately 36 hours, 59.2% of attempts in the Tadalafil group were successful compared with 28.3% in the placebo group. Another trial examining both 10 and 20 mg also documented statistically significant benefit at the 24-hour and 36-hour points.
The useful interpretation is not that every dose guarantees identical effectiveness throughout a fixed 36-hour period. Drug concentration falls gradually, erectile dysfunction differs greatly between patients and sexual circumstances change from one attempt to another. The advantage is a wider period in which sexual activity can occur without requiring the tablet and the sexual encounter to be timed within a narrow interval.
Should Tadalafil Be Taken as Needed or Every Day?
Tadalafil is unusual among commonly used ED medicines because both approaches are established dosing strategies. For on-demand treatment of erectile dysfunction, 10 mg is the usual starting dose. Depending on effectiveness and adverse effects, it can be decreased to 5 mg or increased to 20 mg. This regimen is intended for use before anticipated sexual activity and should not be repeated more than once per day.
Daily treatment uses much smaller doses. For erectile dysfunction alone, the usual once-daily starting dose is 2.5 mg, taken at approximately the same time each day without regard to when sexual activity will occur. The dose may be increased to 5 mg if needed and tolerated. Because Tadalafil accumulates during repeated use, steady-state plasma concentrations are generally reached within about five days, and overall exposure at steady state is approximately 1.6 times the exposure following a single equivalent dose.
These regimens are not interchangeable simply by looking at the number printed on the tablet. Taking 20 mg every day because 20 mg is an available Cialis strength is not the standard once-daily ED regimen. Likewise, a 2.5 or 5 mg daily tablet is not intended to mimic the immediate drug exposure produced by a 20 mg on-demand dose.
Frequency of sexual activity, response to treatment, adverse effects, concurrent medicines, kidney function and whether urinary symptoms from BPH are also present can influence which approach a clinician considers. Some men prefer an occasional higher dose because sexual activity is infrequent. Others prefer daily treatment because it removes the need to decide when to take a tablet before each encounter.
Does a Heavy Meal Change the Effect of Cialis?
Food is much less important to Tadalafil absorption than it is for some other ED medicines. Pharmacokinetic studies found that neither the rate nor the extent of Tadalafil absorption is meaningfully altered by food, and official prescribing information therefore permits Cialis to be taken with or without a meal. This is a relevant difference for men whose sexual activity often follows dinner. A fatty evening meal does not require the same degree of dose-timing adjustment that may be needed with an ED medicine whose absorption is slowed by food. That does not mean food, alcohol and the circumstances of the evening are completely irrelevant to erectile performance. A large meal can still affect comfort and sexual interest, while substantial alcohol intake can impair erections independently of the medication and can increase Tadalafil’s blood-pressure-lowering effects.
The absence of a meaningful food interaction also makes daily use simpler. A 5 mg daily tablet can be taken at approximately the same time each day without coordinating the dose with breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Why Is Tadalafil 5 mg Also Used for BPH?
Tadalafil is not limited to erectile dysfunction. The 5 mg once-daily regimen is also used for signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia, including urinary frequency, urgency, weak urinary stream and difficulty beginning urination. The same daily dose is used when ED and BPH occur together.
This makes Tadalafil particularly relevant for men in middle and later adulthood because erectile problems and lower urinary tract symptoms frequently coexist. A patient may originally ask about Cialis because erections have become less reliable and then mention that he is also waking several times during the night to urinate, experiencing urgency or noticing a weaker stream. Those urinary symptoms should not automatically be attributed to aging without assessment, but their presence can change the treatment discussion.
Tadalafil does not work for BPH because it shrinks the prostate. Its effect involves PDE5 inhibition and smooth-muscle signaling in the lower urinary tract and surrounding tissues. This differs from 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors, which can reduce prostate volume over time, and from alpha blockers, which act through adrenergic receptors. The difference in mechanism is one reason these drug groups have different onset patterns, adverse effects and interaction considerations.
When Tadalafil is being used for both conditions, the standard daily dose is 5 mg at approximately the same time each day. A patient should not add a separate 20 mg ED tablet to a daily Tadalafil regimen without specific medical direction simply because sexual activity is planned that evening.
How Effective Is Tadalafil for Erectile Dysfunction?
Tadalafil has been evaluated across mild, moderate and severe erectile dysfunction and in men with different underlying causes. In integrated analyses of randomized trials, both 10 and 20 mg produced significant improvements in erectile-function measurements compared with placebo.
One analysis of 11 randomized trials involving more than 2,000 men found successful intercourse in approximately 58% of attempts with Tadalafil 10 mg and 68% with 20 mg, compared with 31% with placebo. At the end of treatment, 71% of men receiving 10 mg and 84% receiving 20 mg reported improved erections compared with 33% of men receiving placebo.
Those percentages show a meaningful treatment effect, but they also show that Tadalafil is not universally successful. A tablet can improve the physiological erectile response while diabetes, severe vascular disease, nerve injury, pelvic surgery, psychological distress or other medications continue to limit the final result.
The long dosing window can sometimes help distinguish a timing problem from a treatment problem. If a man repeatedly fails with a short interval between dose and intercourse, but performs better several hours later, timing may have contributed. If properly used Tadalafil repeatedly produces little or no erectile improvement across several attempts, increasing the dose on his own is less useful than examining why the response remains poor.
Is Tadalafil Safe for Men With Cardiovascular Disease?
Erectile dysfunction and cardiovascular disease frequently occur in the same patient because hypertension, diabetes, smoking, dyslipidemia, obesity and atherosclerosis can affect both coronary and penile blood vessels. This does not mean that Tadalafil itself causes coronary disease, but it does mean that cardiovascular history belongs in the assessment before ED treatment is treated as an isolated sexual-health issue.
Sexual activity increases cardiovascular workload, so the first question in a patient with significant heart disease is whether sexual activity itself is medically appropriate. Tadalafil also has vasodilating properties and can lower blood pressure, which becomes more relevant in patients taking several blood-pressure medicines or drugs that produce additional vasodilation. New erectile dysfunction can occasionally appear before cardiovascular disease has been formally diagnosed. A man with recent loss of erectile function together with exertional chest discomfort, unusual shortness of breath or a heavy burden of vascular risk factors needs more than a stronger ED tablet. The erectile symptom may be one part of a wider vascular problem.
Why Is the Nitrate Warning Especially Important With Cialis?
Organic nitrates and Tadalafil must not be used together. Nitroglycerin tablets, sublingual sprays, patches and long-acting nitrate products containing isosorbide increase nitric-oxide-mediated vasodilation, while Tadalafil prevents rapid breakdown of the cGMP signal produced downstream. Combining these mechanisms can cause an excessive fall in blood pressure.
The long half-life of Tadalafil makes the timing of this interaction particularly important. A clinical pharmacology study examined the blood-pressure response to nitroglycerin at several intervals after Tadalafil. A significant interaction remained detectable through 24 hours. By 48 hours the interaction was no longer apparent by most hemodynamic measurements, although additional blood-pressure reduction was still seen in some subjects.
For this reason, current prescribing information states that when nitrate treatment is considered medically necessary for a life-threatening situation, at least 48 hours should have elapsed since the last Tadalafil dose. Even after that interval, nitrates should be given only under close medical supervision with appropriate hemodynamic monitoring.
This information matters outside planned ED treatment. A man may take Cialis on Saturday and develop chest pain on Sunday. Emergency clinicians need to know that Tadalafil was taken even if the patient no longer feels any erectile effect from the tablet. The absence of an obvious subjective drug effect does not mean the medication has already been eliminated.
Which Other Drugs and Substances Can Interact With Tadalafil?
Tadalafil is metabolized predominantly through CYP3A4, so potent inhibitors of that enzyme can substantially increase exposure. Ritonavir, ketoconazole, itraconazole and other strong CYP3A4 inhibitors are examples that can require lower or less frequent Tadalafil dosing. A medication review should therefore include more than cardiovascular drugs.
Alpha blockers deserve separate attention because both treatments can reduce blood pressure. Tamsulosin and several other drugs in this group are frequently used for urinary symptoms in the same age group in which Tadalafil is common. The exact interaction depends on the alpha blocker, dose, cardiovascular status and whether the patient is already stable on treatment.
Blood-pressure medicines can also add to Tadalafil’s vasodilating effect, although this does not mean that every man taking an antihypertensive is unable to use Tadalafil. The number of medications, baseline blood pressure and history of dizziness or orthostatic symptoms are relevant to individual risk.
Alcohol has its own interaction profile. Both alcohol and Tadalafil can dilate blood vessels, and current Cialis labeling warns specifically about substantial alcohol intake, described as approximately five units or more. The combination can increase dizziness, headache, faster heart rate and a decrease in standing blood pressure. Alcohol can also make the underlying erectile problem worse even before its interaction with Tadalafil is considered.
What Side Effects Are Most Common With Tadalafil?
Headache and indigestion are among the most frequent adverse effects, while back pain and muscle discomfort are particularly associated with Tadalafil compared with the pattern many patients expect from other ED medicines. Nasal congestion, flushing and pain in the limbs can also occur.
In the primary placebo-controlled studies of Cialis used as needed for ED, the following adverse reactions were reported:
| Adverse effect | Placebo | 5 mg | 10 mg | 20 mg |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Headache | 5% | 11% | 11% | 15% |
| Dyspepsia | 1% | 4% | 8% | 10% |
| Back pain | 3% | 3% | 5% | 6% |
| Myalgia | 1% | 1% | 4% | 3% |
| Nasal congestion | 1% | 2% | 3% | 3% |
| Flushing | 1% | 2% | 3% | 3% |
| Pain in limb | 1% | 1% | 3% | 3% |
These percentages come from controlled trials and describe groups rather than predicting what an individual patient will experience. They do show that adverse effects do not necessarily rise in a perfectly straight line with every increase in dose, although overall drug exposure and tolerability remain important reasons not to use more Tadalafil than needed.
Visual color changes appear to be considerably less common with Tadalafil than many patients associate with PDE5 inhibitors in general. Across Cialis studies involving all doses, changes in color vision were reported in fewer than 0.1% of patients. Sudden major visual loss is a separate medical issue and should never be interpreted as an ordinary temporary side effect.
Why Can Cialis Cause Back Pain or Muscle Aches?
Back pain and myalgia are recognizable Tadalafil adverse effects and deserve their own explanation because their timing can seem unusual. They may not occur during the period immediately surrounding sexual activity. Clinical pharmacology studies found that when Tadalafil-related back pain or muscle discomfort occurred, it generally appeared about 12 to 24 hours after the dose and usually resolved within approximately 48 hours.
The discomfort was commonly described across the lower back, buttocks, thighs or thoracolumbar area and could become more noticeable while lying down. Most reported episodes were mild or moderate and resolved without medical treatment. In controlled and longer-term studies, discontinuation specifically because of back pain or myalgia was uncommon.
This delayed pattern can cause confusion when a man takes Cialis one evening, feels well during sexual activity and develops lower-back discomfort the following day. The timing is compatible with a known Tadalafil adverse effect, although new severe back pain should not automatically be attributed to Cialis because many unrelated musculoskeletal, neurologic and urinary conditions can produce similar symptoms.
Which Symptoms Need Urgent Medical Attention?
Priapism remains one of the most important emergency warnings for the entire PDE5 inhibitor class. An erection that persists for more than four hours requires immediate medical attention. Prolonged ischemic erection can damage erectile tissue and may produce permanent erectile dysfunction if treatment is delayed.
Sudden decrease or loss of vision in one or both eyes also requires prompt assessment. Rare reports involving non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, or NAION, have occurred in temporal association with PDE5 inhibitor use. Many affected patients have underlying vascular or ophthalmic risk factors, and the existence of post-marketing reports does not establish that Tadalafil caused every event, but sudden visual loss is not a symptom for which another tablet should be taken to see what happens.
Sudden reduction or loss of hearing requires the same caution, particularly when tinnitus or dizziness appears at the same time. Tadalafil should be stopped and medical attention obtained rather than continuing the next scheduled dose while waiting for hearing to return.
Chest pain during or after sexual activity also changes the situation immediately. A patient who has recently taken Tadalafil should tell emergency personnel because routine nitrate treatment may be unsafe during the relevant post-dose period.
Why Might Cialis Work Well One Time and Poorly the Next?
Tadalafil’s long duration removes some of the timing pressure associated with ED treatment, but it does not remove the many variables that influence an erection. Sexual stimulation, anxiety, alcohol, relationship circumstances, fatigue, vascular function and the underlying severity of erectile dysfunction can all change between attempts.
One unsuccessful experience therefore does not show that the body has become resistant to Tadalafil. A man may have adequate drug exposure but insufficient arousal, substantial alcohol consumption or severe performance anxiety. Another may have worsening diabetes, peripheral vascular disease or medication-related sexual dysfunction that has progressed since the dose was originally selected.
Daily Tadalafil introduces another consideration. Steady-state concentration is reached after repeated dosing, generally within about five days, so the experience during the first tablet or two does not necessarily represent the same drug exposure that will exist after regular daily administration. Daily therapy still requires sexual stimulation and does not guarantee an erection on demand without arousal.
If properly used Tadalafil repeatedly fails, simply exceeding the recommended dose can increase exposure without addressing the reason for failure. Medication review, endocrine assessment when indicated, cardiovascular evaluation, assessment for neurologic or pelvic causes and discussion of psychological factors may provide more useful information. Other ED treatments can also be considered when PDE5 inhibition does not produce an adequate response.
Cialis or Tadalafil: What Is the Difference?
Cialis is the original branded Tadalafil product, while generic products contain the same active pharmaceutical ingredient and are manufactured by numerous companies. A legally authorized generic of the same labeled strength is expected to meet the applicable standards for identity, strength, quality and performance even though its tablet color, shape, coating, packaging and inactive ingredients may differ from the original brand. This distinction becomes very visible in Mexico because the price difference between Cialis and generic Tadalafil can be several-fold. A four-tablet box of generic 20 mg Tadalafil and a four-tablet box of original Cialis 20 mg contain the same nominal amount of active ingredient per tablet, even when their retail prices are separated by more than MXN 1,000.
The original brand can still be preferred by a patient who has used it successfully for years or wants a specific manufacturer, but price alone should not be interpreted as a measure of pharmacological strength. Twenty milligrams of original Cialis is not a larger Tadalafil dose than 20 mg stated on an authorized generic product.
Inactive ingredients can differ, so patients with a known sensitivity to a particular excipient should check the actual formulation. Manufacturer identification, lot number, expiration information and intact original packaging are also more useful authenticity checks than tablet color alone.
How Much Does Tadalafil Cost in Mexico?
Mexico has a broad Tadalafil market that includes original Cialis, pharmacy private-label generics and multiple branded generic products. The resulting price range can be large even before different package quantities are taken into account.
Online prices checked in October 2026 provide a useful example. Farmacias del Ahorro listed its private-label Tadalafil 20 mg package containing four tablets at approximately MXN 358. At the same retailer, original Cialis 20 mg with four tablets was listed at MXN 1,910. Another Tadalafil product, Taedallis 20 mg with four tablets, was listed at MXN 391, while Invictus 20 mg with four tablets was approximately MXN 238.
Farmacias Guadalajara showed original Cialis 20 mg, four tablets, at an online price of approximately MXN 1,656.51 at the time checked. Its listing also states that online prices can differ by location and from prices inside physical branches, which is an important qualification when comparing Mexican medication prices online.
These examples show why the phrase “price of Cialis in Mexico” can refer to very different numbers. A customer asking specifically for original Cialis is looking at a different retail category from someone asking for any Tadalafil 20 mg product. The strength and tablet count need to be matched before the prices are meaningfully compared.
How Much Can Daily Tadalafil 5 mg Cost in Mexico?
The economics of daily therapy are different because the patient needs many more tablets per month. Comparing the price of one 20 mg tablet with a 28-tablet package of 5 mg Tadalafil gives little useful information unless the intended dosing regimen is considered.
In October 2026, Farmacias del Ahorro listed private-label Tadalafil 5 mg with 28 tablets at approximately MXN 637. Original Cialis 5 mg with the same 28-tablet quantity was listed at approximately MXN 3,005. Another 5 mg Tadalafil product, Invictus, was listed at approximately MXN 1,385 for 28 tablets.
On those specific listings, the difference between original Cialis and the pharmacy’s generic product exceeded MXN 2,300 for a 28-tablet package. That does not establish one fixed nationwide saving because promotions and inventory change, but it demonstrates why manufacturer and brand status have a much larger effect on the final price than simply seeing “Tadalafil 5 mg” in the product name.
For patients comparing daily options, the per-tablet price and the number of tablets required for the intended regimen are more useful than the price printed on the front of a package. A smaller box can appear cheaper while costing considerably more over a full month of daily treatment.
Why Do Cialis Prices Vary So Much Between Mexican Pharmacies?
The active ingredient is only one component of retail pricing. Original-brand positioning, generic competition, manufacturer contracts, private-label purchasing, package quantity, online promotions, loyalty programs and pharmacy inventory can all produce different prices for the same nominal strength.
Generic competition is particularly important with Tadalafil because numerous manufacturers can offer the medicine after the period of brand exclusivity. Pharmacy chains may also sell their own private-label version at a lower price than independent branded generics. This is why one pharmacy can display several 20 mg Tadalafil products at substantially different prices on the same day.
A very low price does not automatically indicate a poor medicine, just as a very high price does not establish superior clinical effectiveness. The useful distinction is whether the product comes through a legitimate pharmaceutical supply chain and provides identifiable information about the manufacturer, active ingredient, strength, lot and expiration date.
What Determines the Tadalafil Price on Mexican Pharmacy King?
Mexican Pharmacy King may list Tadalafil in different strengths, quantities and manufacturer presentations. A price shown for one option should therefore be compared with another pharmacy only after confirming the actual tablet strength and number of tablets included.
For the product displayed on this page, the listed manufacturer is generic / varies by current supply source and the current catalog price is $30.99. These dynamic values identify the current product rather than a general national price for all Tadalafil sold in Mexico.
The intended regimen also changes how a price should be interpreted. Four tablets of 20 mg are normally compared within the on-demand market, while 28 tablets of 5 mg are typically associated with a daily regimen. Dividing the box price by tablet count can be useful, but comparing the monthly cost of the intended treatment gives a more relevant figure when daily therapy is being considered.
What Should Be Checked Before Buying Tadalafil in Mexico?
- Confirm the active ingredient and strength. The package should identify Tadalafil and state the amount contained in each tablet. A 5 mg daily product and a 20 mg on-demand product should not be treated as interchangeable simply because both contain Tadalafil.
- Check the quantity before comparing prices. One-tablet, four-tablet, eight-tablet, 14-tablet and 28-tablet presentations can produce very different box prices. The tablet count belongs in every meaningful comparison.
- Identify the manufacturer or authorization holder. Original Cialis and generic Tadalafil may look completely different. Manufacturer information, intact packaging, lot details and expiration data provide more useful information than expecting every legitimate tablet to have the appearance of the original brand.
- Distinguish ED treatment from other Tadalafil uses. Tadalafil is also used for BPH and is available under other medical contexts and dosing schedules. The presence of the active ingredient on a package does not establish the correct dose for a particular patient.
- Use an identifiable pharmacy source. Erectile dysfunction medicines remain a major target for counterfeit and unregulated online sellers. Loose tablets, unmarked blisters and products with no traceable manufacturer provide much less assurance about what is actually being supplied.
- Review current medicines before use. Nitrates, riociguat, alpha blockers, potent CYP3A4 inhibitors and multiple blood-pressure medicines can substantially change the safety of Tadalafil. A purchasing decision should not be separated from the medication interaction question.
Can Tadalafil Treat Both Urinary Symptoms and Erectile Dysfunction?
For men who have both erectile dysfunction and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia, Tadalafil is one of the medicines for which a single established daily regimen can address both indications. The recommended once-daily dose for ED combined with BPH is 5 mg at approximately the same time each day, without timing the tablet around sexual activity.
This does not mean that every urinary symptom in a man with ED is caused by benign prostate enlargement. Urinary infection, bladder dysfunction, prostate inflammation, urethral obstruction, neurologic disease and other conditions can produce overlapping complaints. Persistent weak stream, difficulty emptying the bladder, blood in the urine, painful urination or an abrupt change in urinary function warrants evaluation rather than self-diagnosis based on age alone.
The dual indication is still clinically useful because ED and lower urinary tract symptoms frequently occur together. A man who originally considers Tadalafil only for erections may have another reason for discussing daily therapy if clinically significant BPH symptoms are also present.
Tadalafil Changes Timing, but It Does Not Remove the Cause of ED
The 36-hour period is often the feature that attracts attention to Cialis, but duration does not explain why erectile function changed in the first place. Normal erection requires arterial blood flow, functional penile tissue, intact nerve signaling, appropriate hormonal status, sexual stimulation and a psychological state compatible with arousal.
Diabetes, hypertension, atherosclerosis, smoking, obesity, pelvic surgery, neurologic disease, low testosterone in appropriate cases, antidepressants and other medications can all contribute. Anxiety can then develop on top of the original physical problem after several unsuccessful sexual experiences, making the final clinical picture more complicated than either “physical ED” or “psychological ED” alone.
Tadalafil can improve the erectile response while these underlying factors remain present. A successful tablet does not prove that no vascular or metabolic problem exists, and an unsuccessful tablet does not prove that erectile dysfunction is untreatable. When ED is new, progressively worsening or associated with other cardiovascular, endocrine, neurologic or urinary symptoms, understanding the cause remains part of appropriate treatment.
